Set your spending categories

Go to the ⚙️ Setup tab. Enter your categories and monthly budget targets. Pre-filled examples are included to get you started.

Before you ask

What is a CSV — and where
do I download one?

You don't need to know anything about spreadsheets or files to use MRBT. Here's all you need to know.

📄
A CSV is just a list of your transactions

CSV stands for "Comma-Separated Values" — but ignore that. In plain English, it's a simple file your bank lets you download that contains a list of everything you've spent and received. Each row is one transaction: the date, the merchant name, and the amount. Nothing more, nothing less.

It does not contain your account password, sort code, account number, or anything that could be used to access your bank. It's the digital equivalent of your paper bank statement — just easier to work with.

How to download your CSV — by bank
🟠 Monzo
App → Account tab → scroll down → Export Transactions → choose date range → Download CSV
🔵 Chase UK
App → Transactions → tap the filter/export icon (top right) → Export as CSV → choose date range
🟢 Starling
App → tap your account → StatementDownload → select CSV format
🔷 Barclays
Online banking → StatementsExport → choose CSV format → download
🟣 Revolut
App → ProfileStatementsExcel/CSV → choose date range → export
🏦 HSBC, NatWest, Lloyds, Nationwide, Santander
Online banking → Statements or Transaction history → look for Export, Download, or Save as CSV. All major UK banks support CSV export.

Just dates, descriptions, and amounts. No passwords. No account numbers. Nothing sensitive beyond what's already on your paper statement.
What MRBT does with it
1You paste the CSV into the import sidebar inside Google Sheets
2MRBT cleans and formats every row automatically
3The auto-categoriser assigns a category to each transaction
4Your dashboard updates instantly with real spending data
The whole process takes about 90 seconds. Then delete the CSV from your downloads — you don't need it anymore.
Your data & privacy

Is it safe to import your
bank CSV into Google Sheets?

A fair and important question. Here is exactly what happens to your financial data — and what never happens.

🔒
Your tracker lives in your Google account only

When you click the Made Ready Budget Tracker download link, Google creates a private copy in your own Google account. Made Ready Co never has access to your sheet, your transactions, or your balance data. Think of it like buying a recipe book — the ingredients you put in are entirely yours.

🏦
CSV files contain no bank login credentials

The CSV file you download from your bank contains a list of transactions — dates, descriptions, amounts. It does not contain your account password, sort code, account number, or any authentication details. Importing it into Google Sheets is no different from reading your paper bank statement.

🙈
Standard version: completely offline

Made Ready Budget Tracker Standard uses only Google's own Apps Script running inside your Google account. No data is ever sent anywhere outside Google. The auto-categorisation runs entirely within your sheet — zero external connections.

Pro version: transaction descriptions only, never stored

MRBT Pro sends only raw transaction description text (e.g. "TESCO STORES 1234") to Made Ready's API for AI categorisation. Amounts, dates, and account details are never transmitted. The description text is processed in real time and immediately discarded — never logged, stored, or used for any other purpose.

🗑️
Delete your CSV after importing

Once your transactions are in the tracker, delete the CSV file from your computer and empty your downloads folder. The CSV is the most sensitive file in this process — the sheet itself is protected by your Google account login and two-factor authentication.

🔐
Google's security protects your tracker

Your Made Ready Budget Tracker is protected by the same Google security infrastructure that protects Gmail, Drive, and Google Pay. Enable two-factor authentication on your Google account and your financial data is as secure as it can reasonably be in any digital tool.

🛡️Security summary
Your tracker is private to your Google account
Made Ready Co never sees your financial data
CSV contains no passwords or account numbers
Standard version: zero external data transmission
Pro version: only description text sent, never stored
Protected by Google's security infrastructure
No bank login credentials ever involved
No third-party bank connections or open banking APIs
Bottom line: importing a bank CSV into a private Google Sheet is significantly safer than connecting your bank account to a third-party budgeting app — because no live bank connection is ever established, and your credentials are never involved.

Questions

Things people ask before buying

Do I need any technical knowledge to use Made Ready Budget Tracker?+

None at all. You need a free Google account and the ability to download a CSV from your bank app — something most people do in under a minute. The ReadMe PDF and 90-second Loom video walk you through every step. Most buyers are set up in under 10 minutes.

What is a CSV and how do I get one from my bank?+

A CSV is a simple file your bank lets you download containing a list of your transactions — dates, merchant names, and amounts. It doesn't contain passwords or account numbers. Every major UK bank supports CSV export: in Monzo go to Account → Export Transactions. In Starling go to your account → Statement → Download → CSV. In Chase tap the export icon in the transactions screen. In Barclays go to Statements → Export. In Revolut go to Profile → Statements → CSV. For HSBC, NatWest, Lloyds, Nationwide and Santander look for Export or Download in your online banking statement view. The full step-by-step guide is in the "What is a CSV?" section above.

Which UK banks does the CSV import support?+

The import sidebar has built-in presets for Monzo, Chase UK, Starling, Barclays, and Revolut. There's also a Generic format that works with any UK bank that exports CSV files — covering HSBC, Nationwide, NatWest, Lloyds, Santander, and virtually every other UK bank and credit card. MRBT Pro's AI categorisation works with any bank regardless of CSV format.

Is it safe to put my bank statement data into Google Sheets?+

Yes — and it's significantly safer than connecting your bank account to a third-party budgeting app. Your bank CSV contains only transaction descriptions and amounts — no passwords, no account numbers, no authentication credentials. The tracker lives entirely in your private Google account. Made Ready Co never has access to any of your data. See the full security breakdown above.

Does the Pro version require me to set up an API key or subscription?+

No. All you need is a free Google account. The AI features in MRBT Pro run on Made Ready's own infrastructure, covered by your one-time purchase. No Anthropic account, no Claude subscription, no extra setup of any kind.

I already bought Standard. How do I upgrade to Pro?+

Search "Made Ready Budget Tracker Pro Upgrade" in the Made Ready Co Etsy shop — listed at £15 for existing Standard customers. You'll receive a new tracker download with all Pro AI features pre-configured. Your existing transaction data copies across in about two minutes.

Does this work on iPhone or Android?+

Yes — Google Sheets has full iOS and Android apps. The dashboard and transactions are fully usable on mobile. We recommend importing your bank CSV on a laptop or desktop (the sidebar works best there), then checking your budget on your phone throughout the month.

Will this work with Microsoft Excel?+

Made Ready Budget Tracker is built specifically for Google Sheets and uses Google's Apps Script for all automation. It is not compatible with Microsoft Excel — the automation layer simply doesn't exist in Excel. A free Google account is all you need, and Google Sheets works in any browser on any device.
